Egos, Logos and Fishing Prose
If you have followed the sport of professional bass fishing for a decade or more, you’ve probably noticed it’s not quite the same sport it was 10 or 20 years ago. Things have changed – a lot.
Sometime around 2021, a frequent question floating around the sport became, “What has happened to professional bass fishing?”
That very question led to the writing of my first book, Egos, Logos and Fishing Prose, which is now available in paperback on Amazon. That is correct: I wrote a book about the niche sport of professional fishing at a time when reading is becoming a lost art. I know, great idea, right?
The truth is, I have covered the sport for thirty years and over the last couple of years, I have increasingly asked myself: How did we get here?
Professional bass fishing hit a feverish pitch in 2007 before the Great Recession took the wind out of its sails. Even after the economy recovered and tournament participation swelled again in the post-recession era, professional fishing seems to be stuck in its own ruts in returning to its former glory. The modern era of bass fishing’s big leagues has been a slippery slope. A myriad of issues swirling around the sport have eroded the foundations and compromised the principles of its existence. Now, the fans and participants are starting to ask a lot of questions about the legitimacy of the sport’s future. So, in 2024, I began scribbling away with my opinions and insights on professional fishing’s tribulations in the modern era. If you’re wondering why the top tier of the sport can’t seem to get out of its own way, Ego, Logos and Fishing Prose may help clear up the picture and, in doing so, make reading great again!
